Violated
So, how is it that credit card companies are so smart??? You see yesterday, there were two unusual attempted charges for some $700 to online sites. These were wisely denied as they do not fit our charge pattern and were NOT us. So, they froze our account, sometime after lunch today - random aside: I know this because Squirrel had Mcky D's for lunch, and charged it - anyway....Today, Squirrel spent 45 minutes trying to convince the lady at capital uno to allow his gas charge to go through (he gets gas every freaking day folks, at the same freaking gas station!!)
Here's what I don't get, they realize that we don't normally spend $700 online buying trains or whatever, but Squirrel goes to the same exact station every day and the woman at capital uno did not want to let him charge his gasoline, huh? Squirrel only carries this one card, so there was no other way for him to pay; unless he was going to hand wash cars or collect donations in a coffee cup. The charge was finally allowed and now we are awaiting new cards with a new number because some asshole decided to steel a credit card number and sucked so bad he couldn't even get his theft purchases approved.
Here's the other quandary...I was in North Carolina a few weeks back and I made some purchases while there. That is not typical, so why didn't they flag that activity? We just paid a large chunk of money towards a cruise, which is also not typical, again; why was this not flagged? Don't get me wrong, I am VERY appreciative that they caught this and I don't have to deal with it other than to await a new card in the mail, but how do they calculate "abnormal?"
Now I'm intrigued.

They did something similar to us on a recent trip in CA. It wasn't that much different than anything else we've purchased, but they froze the card and we had to call and beg.
I don't know what their criteria is ... ?
